I'm so happy to find this place. As a child my Mom would always get the strawberry cream filled cake for *our birthdays (*my 2 brothers & myself). I was hoping to see a picture of the sheet cake as that is the one she always got us. My mom & lil brother have passed (2020) & sadly I haven't had a service for them yet (yes hard to admit but they passed 4 weeks apart to the day & it has taken years to recover) anyway, I know one thing, when I do have their Celebration of Life, I will definitely be ordering the largest one or a couple large sheet cakes as ALL our family members will recall these were part of our childhood trademark birthday cakes from my amazing Mom. Even as a single mom that was her trademark gift, not only to us but to all in attendance. Truly a treat to the entire party. She always made everything beautiful & special. Looking at others photos, they look as delicious as they did when I was younger, I can't say how happy I am to find Phoenix Bakery. As a child I never paid attention to the name but after research, I know this is it. In fact!!! I have yet to go through all her photos, I'm sure I will find pics, between my brothers & my parties I'm certain when I go through photos I will find the cake. Undeniably Phoenix Bakery. .... To be continued....

Neighborhood bakery in Chinatown that's been a local favorite for decades. I usually like to go in for a pastry as dessert after having lunch in the area. Pictured is the Bear Claw, loved the way it's done here and the amount of almond filling inside it.

Checked out this bakery in China Town. It was kinda late in the day so most of the pastries and cakes were sold out. Picked up some peanut butter cookies, pineapple coconut pastries, autumn cookies and almond cookies. All were pretty tasty. Customer service could be more friendly but not bad.

This classic sponge cake is a true delight! The soft, fluffy layers are perfectly complemented by the fresh cream and juicy strawberries, creating a refreshing and light flavor profile. It's not overly sweet, making it a hit for both adults and kids. 3 leches rendition is great, too. The price is affordable, especially considering the quality of ingredients and care put into crafting it. Plus, they offer customization options, which is a fantastic bonus if you're looking to personalize it for a special occasion. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an old school nostalgic Asian bakery style birthday cake.

Phoenix bakery has the best cakes I've ever had! The cake is so airy and fluffy and the cream is light and decadent. My favorite is the mango mousse but they are popular for their strawberry cake which is also so good! The shaved almonds on the outer side just take it to a whole other level of deliciousness. My other favorite is the sugar butterflies which is fried wonton coated in a thick sugar syrup. This is definitely a sugar rush, so I recommend the smaller size if you get hungry eyes just like I did. I also wanted to try their cookies and got the peanut butter. It was hard and tasted a bit stale. I'd stick to what they're known for. Service was efficient and the inside is small. There are no table to eat your slice of cake, but I did find outdoor seating in an alley a few blocks down Broadway street. It looked like there was several parking spaces available in front of the bakery.

*** Credit card accepted - $0.50 charge for card transactions of $10 or less; cash, credit, debit, and Apple Pay accepted + no EBT cards *** Phoenix Bakery is an oldest family-owned bakery in Los Angeles since 1938 and it is located right next to the Chinatown Central Plaza in Chinatown. The storefront logo was designed by the first Asian artist hired by Walt Disney (Tyrus Wong who was largely responsible for the look of the film Bambi). [Parking]: Four parking spots with two disabled parking spots. If these spots are taken, then street parking or local paid parking are the only two options. Please note that free street parking on Sunday. [Ordering & Amenities]: No public restrooms and ordering line wasn't too bad. [Signature items]: Strawberry whipped cream cake is the #1 signature item. Other popular options include almond cookies and sugar butterflies. *** Almond cookies (12 pieces - $4.50): Excellent cookies and they were not as sweet as I thought. Strawberry cake slice with almond ($5.95): I can see why everyone loves this cake - the cake wasn't overly sweet and sweetness was on the point. This is a perfect cake for anyone who doesn't want to feel too guilty on eating a whole slice. *** Overall a solid 4.5-star on strawberry cake and almond cookies and I am bumping up to 5-star due to friendly service.
